Common types of control for water softening equipment include time control and flow control. Flow control can be further divided into three methods: single-tank flow control, double-tank flow control, and triple-tank flow control, each with its own characteristics.
1. Single-tank flow control:
Since single-tank flow control equipment stops supplying softened water during regeneration, a softened water tank with a capacity of at least two hours of use is required if this type of product is selected.
2. Double-tank flow control:
Double-tank flow control equipment consists of a control system, two resin tanks, a salt tank, and related pipelines. The controller controls the switching of water production, standby, and regeneration of the two tanks based on water usage, ensuring that one tank is always in operation to continuously supply softened water.
① The water softening equipment has two resin tanks, one in use and one in standby. The regenerated tank enters the standby state. Once one tank automatically or manually enters the regeneration state, the other immediately automatically enters the working state. The water production of this equipment does not change due to the equipment regeneration process.
② The equipment has two resin tanks, both running simultaneously, with different regeneration times. After regeneration, the exchanged tank immediately starts producing water. When using the same tank capacity, the theoretical water production of this equipment is double that of the A series, but the equipment has about three hours in each cycle (approximately 24 hours) where one exchange tank is producing water and the other is in regeneration.

3. Triple-tank flow control:
① The equipment has three resin tanks, two in use and one in standby. The regenerated exchange tank automatically enters the standby state. Once one of the other two tanks automatically or manually enters the regeneration state, the standby tank immediately automatically enters the working state. The water production of this equipment does not change due to the equipment regeneration process;
② The water softening equipment has three resin tanks, all running simultaneously, with different regeneration times. After regeneration, the exchanged tank immediately starts producing water. When using the same tank capacity, the theoretical water production of this equipment is three times that of the 2-A series, but the equipment has about four hours in each cycle (approximately 24 hours) where two exchange tanks are producing water and one is in regeneration.
4. Control of fully automatic water softening equipment operation
During operation, fully automatic water softening equipment commonly uses two control methods: time control and flow control.
① Time control single tank: This type of water softening equipment requires setting the regeneration time based on the actual water usage and equipment exchange capacity. The regeneration process automatically starts when the regeneration time is reached; users can set the regeneration process during periods of low water usage, or manually start the regeneration process as needed. The advantages of this system are: low price, lower price than flow-type equipment due to simple control method; easy to operate; due to the simple control method, it can only regenerate once every 24 hours, so this system is mainly suitable for low hardness (less than 4 mmol/L), stable water usage (water usage fluctuation does not exceed 15%), low water output requirements, and low water usage.
② Flow control: This system sets the operating endpoint based on the equipment's exchange capacity (total water production). During operation, a dedicated flow meter is used to count the amount of water flowing out. When the total water output reaches the set amount, the controller automatically starts the regeneration process. Before setting, the total water production of each cycle should be calculated based on the total resin filling amount and raw water hardness, and the setting should be made according to this value. After reaching the set water amount, regeneration can be performed immediately or delayed until a set time. This type of water softening equipment is more suitable for situations with fluctuating water usage and water quality, and the control is more accurate and stable. This control method is more suitable for high-requirement water usage situations such as fuel and gas boilers and central air conditioning.
