"World Water Day" and "China Water Week"
With the growth of the global population and the increasing demand for water resources from agriculture and industry, water resources are facing extremely serious threats. To this day, one third of the world's population lacks access to safe drinking water, two-fifths lack basic handwashing facilities. For China, the total water resources are approximately 2.8 trillion cubic meters, but the per capita water resource availability is less than 1/3 of the world average, and nearly 2/3 of cities suffer from water shortages to varying degrees.

In order to raise public awareness of water resource protection, on January 18, 1993, the 47th UN General Assembly adopted Resolution 193, designating March 22nd of each year as "World Water Day" Since 1994, China has designated March 22nd to 28th as "China Water Week" to coincide with World Water Day, highlighting its theme.
the The theme of the 29th "World Water Day" is "Valuing Water", ” aiming to promote global awareness of the true value of water resources and how we can better protect this vital resource. China's commemorative activities for World Water Day and China Water Week in 2021 had the theme: Deeply implement the new development concept and promote the intensive and safe utilization of water resources . The value of water resources goes far beyond its price; it is of great significance to the integrity of families, culture, health, education, economy, and the natural environment. Especially in the fight against the novel coronavirus, environmental sanitation, personal hygiene and sufficient clean water play a crucial role in disease prevention and control. The World Health Organization points out that handwashing is one of the most effective preventive measures, reducing the spread of pathogens.
