"World Water Day" and "China Water Week"

With the growth of the earth's population and the increased demand for water by agriculture and industry, water resources are facing extremely serious threats. Today, one-third of the world's population lacks access to safe drinking water, and two-fifths lack basic handwashing facilities. For China, the total amount of water resources is about 2.8 trillion cubic meters, but the per capita water resources are less than 1/3 of the world level, and nearly 2/3 of the cities lack water to varying degrees.

In order to arouse the public's awareness of the protection of water resources, on January 18, 1993 , the 47th United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 193 and designated March 22 every year as "World Water Day" . Since 1994, China has designated March 22 to March 28 as the "China Water Week" to coincide with the World Water Day and highlight its theme.

The theme of the 29th World Water Day is "ValuingWater " , which aims to promote all human beings to pay attention to the true value of water resources and how we can better protect this important resource. The theme of China's commemoration of "World Water Day" and "China Water Week" in 2021 is to thoroughly implement the new development concept and promote the intensive and safe use of water resources . The value of water is much more than its price, it is of great significance to the family, culture, health, education, economy and the integrity of the natural environment. Especially in the fight against the novel coronavirus, sanitation, personal hygiene and adequate clean water play a crucial role in preventing and controlling the disease. The World Health Organization states that hand washing is one of the most effective preventive measures to reduce the spread of pathogens.
